DataDirect Networks and NetApp have announced Chroma Enterprise-based appliances
Danville, Calif. – June 18, 2012 – Whamcloud, a venture-backed company formed from a worldwide network of high-performance computing (HPC) storage industry veterans, today announced that Chroma Enterprise, its new storage solution for large scale, high-bandwidth storage needs, is out of beta and available to hardware partners building storage appliances. Chroma Enterprise provides access to the power and scalability of Lustre, the world’s fastest technology for consolidating mass storage into a single coherent file system. Both DataDirect Networks and NetApp have already announced they are building Chroma Enterprise-based appliances.
“One of the biggest problems with Lustre has always been managing it. Answering ‘How is my file system today?’ should be easy. There are a lot of moving parts in a Lustre file system and checking them all requires time, patience, and expertise. We built Chroma Enterprise to address these exact issues,” said Robert Read, Chroma Engineering Manager at Whamcloud.
“Our Lustre team is second to none. We have leveraged this expertise to build a product that extends the Lustre ecosystem and the reach of Lustre, making it more accessible and useful. Chroma Enterprise is a big step forward in providing the performance and flexibility of Lustre to a much wider range of enterprises with storage-intensive computing environments. Our partners now have a very powerful tool to expand Lustre into new markets,” said Brent Gorda, CEO of Whamcloud.
Designed from the ground up to eliminate the complexity of managing advanced file systems, Chroma Enterprise is tightly integrated with Lustre to deliver these key benefits:
- Automated device discovery and menu-driven configuration that simplifies the configuration, creation and setup of Lustre – minimizing deployment time.
- Powerful browser-based monitoring and management – reducing time spent managing the storage and freeing resources to help make users successful.
- Complete flexibility to choose the storage arrays that best support demanding storage requirements – extending return on storage investments.
